Small Business Leadership Council Mission
“The Small Business Leadership Council will serve as the advocate for small business within the Chamber. The council advises the programming team on topics and speakers that are relevant to the small business community. The SBLC also plays an active role in Public Affairs regarding legislation affecting small business.”

Small Business Leadership Council Responsibilities and Expectations

The following describes both the qualitative and quantitative characteristics and expectations of the Small Business Leadership Council members of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce:



  • Owner/Partner/Principal from a small business (less than 100 Arizona-based employees) or a medium-sized business (100-249 Arizona-based employees.)
  • Representative of a large business (250+ Arizona-based employees) who has an interest in working with small businesses. Board capacity not to exceed 15% of the total council membership.
  • Must be a Chamber member in good standing.
  • All membership applicants will be reviewed by the membership committee to determine fit:
      1. Current council needs based on size and industry
      2. Applicant’s interest in council position based on application submitted
      3. Current applicant’s role and participation within the Chamber


  • Actively participates and engages in discussions with other members and Chamber staff.
  • Provides direction related to speakers, topics and venues for Chamber programs and events.
  • Supports Chamber’s role in the small business community.
  • Introduces prospective members to the Chamber and promotes retention with existing members.


  • Is knowledgeable regarding Chamber membership offerings and programs and services (i.e. IMPACT Awards, Economic Development and Public Policy.)



  • Attend 75% or more Council meetings per year.
  • Attend at least one program per quarter (i.e. Professional Women’s Roundtable, Chamber Institute, Business for Breakfasts, After 5 Mixers, etc.)
  • Attend at least one major Chamber event per year, (i.e. IMPACT Awards, Phoenix Forum, Athena Luncheon, Economic Outlook, etc.)
  • RSVP to Small Business Leadership Council meetings in a timely manner.



  • Promote the Chamber within your own company and community.
  • Encourage your employees to participate in programs or committees as a representative of your company.
  • Provide information on Chamber services and events by sharing Chamber publications.
  • Promote Chamber membership.

I, the undersigned, have read and understand the above Small Business Leadership Council Responsibilities and Expectations and agree to adhere to this document, which will keep me a member in good standing on this council.  In the event that I am not able to meet these responsibilities and expectations, I understand that I no longer qualify to participate on the Small Business Leadership Council.
