Courtney Klein, CEO of New Global Citizens, was the first recipient of the GPCC's ATHENA Young Professional Award, earning the honors in 2008.

While a senior at Arizona State University, Courtney Klein used a $1,000 seed grant to launch Youth Re:Action Corps, a nonprofit with a mission to educate, empower and invest in young people to change the world. By the time its pilot program was completed in Spring 2006, more than $500,000 was secured to support expansion in Arizona and California.

Two years later, after realizing the impact students could have on international communities, Klein spearheaded a merger with New Global Citizens. She became the organization’s CEO and now helps serve more than 50 U.S. high schools and communities in more than 22 countries.

Who will receive the 2012 honors in the Public Sector, Private Sector and Young Professional categories? Find out on Thursday, October 25 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa. Visit www.phoenixchamber.com/athena for more information.
